Mount Abu - Quick Summer Getaway around PUNE

Mount Abu - Quick Summer Getaway around PUNE

Friends, it’s the summer season and you all must have started feeling the heat.

If you want to spend some relax time either with yourself or with your family and friends, especially in the month of May, then I would suggest “Mount Abu” is the ideal place to go.

We had gone to Mount Abu in the month of May. The weather in “Mount Abu” is quite cool, especially in the mornings and evenings. We even had to wear jackets during this time. It was quite pleasing considering the extreme hot weather from where we had come.

We researched the hotels via Make My Trip and zeroed down on “Hotel Udai Garh”. Glad to know that our choice of hotel was perfect! The Hotel is situated at the top of a Hill, making a nice panoramic view across Mount Abu hills from the Hotel’s Balcony.
The Make My Trip package for this hotel was Breakfast + One meal (lunch/dinner). The Breakfast they served was delicious. The hot parathas were yummy. Even the dinner in the evening was quite delightful. There was a lot of variety in the veg food.

We took a train from Pune to Abu-Road Station. We boarded the train in evening at 6 pm and reached Abu Road Station in the morning around 9:30 am.

I always like this kind of train journey where we get to enjoy the scenic view of green India and due to an overnight train journey, we don’t feel much fatigue. Outside the Abu-Road Station, we hired a taxi to take us to our Hotel in Mount Abu which was about 30-45 mins drive through the mountains.
After reaching, we had lunch and just relaxed in the big spacious hotel room. In the evening we strolled down to the market and went for a boating ride to the Nakki Lake. We also did a balloon ride near the lake.
We were happy to know that the famous “Dil Diwana” song from the film “Maine Pyar Kiya” was pictured here. Immediately I could remember the scenes of this song and could relate with the location. After the ride, we strolled in the market, shopped a bit, ate in some local restaurant and then packed up in the room for the night.

Next day, the same taxi took us sightseeing around Mount Abu. We saw Guru Shikhar, which is the highest peak of Aravalli mountains. The border of Pakistan was quite close from this peak. Lot of area beyond it was reserved for Army only. It was very intriguing to get the feel of border so close by and imagine our army jawans guarding the area for us.

On our way back, the taxi stopped in between just for scenic view. We took some snaps at the backdrop of lovely mountains. The wind was so high that we felt that it would fly us away. The experience was awesome.

Next stop was at Dilwara Temples. This is one of the most beautiful example of architecture. Everywhere there was intrinsic carving of marbles making us wonder about the artisans who carved this beautiful wonder.

Last stop was to visit the Brahmakumari peace park. This park is situated between two peaks of the Aravali hills, Guru Shikhar and Achal Garh. We feel very serene and peaceful visiting this beautiful and large landscape of the park. There I came to know that Brahmakumari’s International headquarter’s is situated in Mount Abu.

That day we were so tired, we just ate dinner and slept. Next day was packup time.
Our train was at 4 pm. So, we kept our luggage with the hotel and went to the market for shopping. We purchased beautiful Chaniya Cholis for my daughters (later I realized that I should have bought one for myself too!), bought some beautiful bangles (the Gujarati/Rajasthani designs/colours of the bangles are awesome). Then we purchased some souvenirs and gifts for people back home.

Thus, with fond memories and lot of exciting talks we boarded the train and embarked on our journey back to Pune. We did this trip in May-2013, but still the find memory of this trip is itched in our minds.

Friends, if you have experienced similar memories of Mount Abu, do share in the comments section.
